Ingredient evidence
Glucosamine for Joint Health
Glucosamine is one of the most recognizable joint-supplement ingredients, but major reviews and guidelines have reached mixed conclusions.
What to know
An ingredient can have biological plausibility and still fail to produce a meaningful effect in a finished supplement. Study design, dose, extract quality, duration and participant characteristics all matter.
Shopping checklist
- Distinguish glucosamine sulfate from hydrochloride.
- Check whether chondroitin is also included.
- Be careful with claims that imply guaranteed arthritis treatment.
Marketing vs evidence
Claims such as “repairs cartilage,” “eliminates inflammation” or “treats arthritis” require a much stronger evidentiary basis than general structure/function language. We avoid treating these phrases as established facts.
